US Fractional Shares Trading FAQ

Fractional share trading allows investors to buy or sell fractions of a stock (i.e. 0.5 share of AAPL) instead of a whole share (i.e. 1 share of AAPL).

When trading with fractional shares on DBS Vickers, the orders have a minimum quantity of 0.0001 and a minimum order amount of USD 5 when opening a position.

Investor owning a fractional share means that he owns less than a whole share of the company.

Currently, S&P 500 stocks and selected ETFs are eligible for fractional trading.

DBS Vickers may adjust the eligibility of certain US Securities at any time. Closing a fractional position will not be affected by this adjustment.

Minimum value required is USD 5 (Price x Quantity), no maximum cap. This requirement is not applicable for sell orders.

1. Under Stock Search, key in the S&P 500 stock of your choice.
2. Select the Value tab.
3. Under Action, select "Buy".
4. Under Price, indicate the price.
5. Input the value in Contract Value field.

Note: For order input via value, the estimated quantity will be computed, and round down will be applied if the estimated quantity of the exact quantity has more than 4 decimal places.

You place a fractional buy order via value input of USD 50 and stock price USD 222.66

The estimated quantity will be computed based on value input/price. In this illustration, the estimated quantity will be USD50/ USD222.66 = 0.2245576…

Hence the estimated quantity will be rounded down to 0.2245

Minimum quantity required is 0.0001 share, up to 4 decimal places.

Individual Accounts (Aged above 25 years old)

No. Trades with filled quantity less than 1 will not be amalgamated when trades are of the same stock, currency, settlement mode and trade date as well as the same mode of trade.

1. Buy 0.5 shares of AAPL via Cash Settlement Mode
2. Buy 0.2 shares of AAPL via Cash Settlement Mode
3. Buy USD 100 value of AAPL via Cash Settlement Mode

These three trades will not be amalgamated as one contract. These three trades will be created as three separate contracts.

Yes. Trades with filled quantity more than or equal to 1 will be amalgamated when trades are of the same stock, currency, settlement mode and trade date as well as the same mode of trade.

Fractional shares will receive cash/ cash-in-lieu for corporate actions* (e.g. cash dividends, consolidation, bonus).
